There is no material that is knowingly illegal here. I do believe it's not as compatible as the YMF, though. The DOS software — which can be found on Vogon 186 — is bare bones but is easy to use and powerful. This card is SB Pro compatible and sounds fantastic, very clean and crisp.
If the wavetable header worked, I think this card would have topped the ESF. Voodoo2s aren't mhz stock Geforce isn't released as a beta on New Years '99 under the Quadro brand DOS gaming isn't a bilinear x I have several of these cards still around here somewhere.

There is no material that is knowingly illegal here. There was a certain ESS card I tried and didn't like because it could only play a couple of sounds at a time, or would play the first half of a sound and cut off the rest.
I ended up going with the older ES based card picture above over the ES based card in the OP because it's non-PnP and it doesn't 'pop' on startup like my ES, but otherwise the user experience has been the same. And as others have noted here there is a nasty pop when starting the PC, but these are minor complaints in my opinion. This disclaimer is brought to you thanks to the BSA. Will the highways on the internets become more few? Also the game exs some minor SFX issues on that particular codec.
Many my friends have cheap cards 18688 ES or ? Still no action from the wavetable. That's a bit crap. It insists on enabling WSS which is obviously not gonna work on 8-bit. I've had a lot of hardware going bad on me lately, so I'm not in a good position to test at the moment.

Anyway I have another card with this 8168 on the way so hopefully I have more luck with that one. I dug through my box of sound cards looking for a replacement and tried an: However it seems the card takes two DMAs, 1 and 0. Have been playing around with my integrated ESS in my Compaq. Each behaved slightly differently with regard to WSS resources and I only managed to get the YMF to behave consistently, but not without a struggle, and even then the mixer settings were so far out of whack that - as always - I yanked the card out and swore to never touch one again.
